Administrative Services

The Administrative Services Department plays a key role in providing support services for the company’s employees. Candidates utilize excellent customer service, problem-solving, communication skills and integrity to excel in this area. The Administrative Services internship provides candidates with key insight into the successful operation of a business.

Claims

Internships in the Claims Department introduce participants to the insurance profession and provide knowledge and skillsets to help transition into a post-graduate role in the industry. Interns learn effective strategies for investigating, negotiating and resolving claims. Because we offer a wide variety of insurance products to customers, there are always opportunities for participants to learn new skills and grow throughout the internship. Interns undergo a structured training program which may consist of formal training, online courses and on-the-job training.
 

Corporate Communications

We offer opportunities for those pursuing degrees in communication, event planning, graphic design, and public relations or related fields. Responsibilities vary depending upon the student’s major, but interns may plan and execute corporate events, write copy for internal and external publications, assist with social media initiatives, manage marketing material inventory and design for print and digital collateral.

Finance & Accounting

Interns in the Finance & Accounting Department work with our Accounting, Actuarial or Internal Audit teams on standard daily tasks as well as special projects and initiatives. Preference is given to students and recent grads with full-time availability.

Human Resources

The Human Resources internship introduces participants to the key functions and day-to-day responsibilities of the department. Interns have an opportunity to assist with special projects and initiatives that benefit the company and everyday operations. Excellent customer service, communication skills and an ability to practice discretion while handling sensitive information are key to success in this department.

Information Technology

We offer a broad variety of IT internships, including opportunities in network services, Help Desk support, application development and business intelligence. Candidates support the IT team and gain real world experiences while maintaining information systems, enhancing the environment and resolving technology concerns.

Legal

Law clerks/legal interns support our Legal Department year-round. Our interns assist with general legal research and support. They provide assistance to the Claims Department in litigated and pre-litigation matters, research claim-related legal issues and provide general help in insurance-related manners, all while receiving competitive pay.

Loss Prevention & Safety Services

Safety & risk management and insurance students and recent grads can learn a great deal from the hands-on opportunities in our Loss Prevention & Safety Services Department. Our interns utilize insurance and safety knowledge to assist with data collection, analysis and reporting. Students and recent graduates also assist Loss Prevention & Safety Services Specialists with workload assignments, processing and special projects such as on-site reviews.

Project Management

Our Project Management Office (PMO) assists with the coordination and completion of strategic operational projects by monitoring project status, gathering customer responses and needs, monitoring project scope and watching for potential setbacks. Our PMO interns assist project managers throughout the project management lifecycle, including project meetings, following up on action items with project stakeholders and creating project documentation. They are responsible for researching and discussing best practices with the PMO team and contributing new ideas based upon their academic experience.

Sales

Our Sales Department works directly with building and growing key Client relationships through market research, business planning, segmentation and analysis. Interns utilize superior communication, interpersonal skills and customer services while assisting with client planning, analysis and communication along with market intelligence and research. Individuals in this department will also analyze performance metrics of the clients and provide detailed reports to sales department to assist in the business planning process.

Underwriting

The underwriting internship is an extensive learning opportunity that introduces a college student or recent grad to a potential underwriting career with Protective Insurance. The program includes a mixture of underwriting-related project work and shadowing experience. The internship provides a high-level introduction to Protective Insurance products and services, underwriting roles and responsibilities, systems and reporting tools and project management experience.
