A return-to-work program can:
- Increase the likelihood that employees will return to work: Injured employees who remain off work longer than six months only have a 50 percent likelihood of ever returning to that job. If the time lost exceeds one year, then that likelihood decreases to less than 10 percent.
- Reduce claims costs by up to 70 percent: Studies have shown that RTW programs don’t only reduce lost time days, but also medical costs.
- Allow injured employees to return to work up to 50 percent sooner: In companies that have well-managed RTW programs including transitional duty, up to 90 percent of injured employees go back to work within four days of the injury.
- Create a faster recovery period for the employee: Good RTW programs treat work as therapy to help the employee recovery up to three times faster than if they stayed at home.
Increase employee morale: RTW programs are a testament that employees are a valuable company resource rather than a disposable income.
